My dear idol

I take back what I said about his album in my post entitled "For my idol". I listened to every song in his album in the MRT today (except Wu Fa Kong Zhi) and I realised that I actually do love the songs. It's just that one song that ruined my impression of the entire album. JJ's voice is still so mesmerizing, so beautiful, so... incomparable to anyone else's. I love his voice. The songs are nice too, yes, but screw the jazz crap. If the song Yi Ge You Yi Ge didn't have that jazz element in it I'd love it so much more, but I guess that song would be a nice slow song to sing in little bars and stuff.

Ahhhh his voice is so freaking awesome. I'm so in love with him all over again. Yes this album is worth every cent. Yet this album is definitely not one of my favourites - in fact, I think it's my least favourite. My favourites are still the first few, where the songs and music videos make me swoon and cry and my heart melt with love.

For my Idol

Dear JJ,

I must say I’ve been a great fan of you since I was 12 and you’ve changed my life tremendously in every way I could imagine, and I’ll continue supporting you and loving your beautiful, strong voice for as long as I can. Having said that, I must say I’m also quite an unbiased fan. I’d love to say this new album was great and I love it – but I can’t. Truthfully – brace yourself – I dislike it pretty much and I really wish this weren’t your album.

In fact, I think the quality of the albums have started to go downhill since Cao Cao. Of course, there have been a lot of really really awesome songs in the last few albums, but I can’t help but sense a tinge of…something in them. It’s either tiredness or that you’re trying too hard to be someone you’re not and aren’t comfortable with. Or both.

When I listen to your music on my iPod, I usually go only to the first three albums. My favourite album’s the second one, Jiang Nan; there’s no song I don’t like in that. The first three albums were fresh – you were young and so ready to show yourself to the world in the first album; the second brought us closer to you with your love ballads and the occasional lively, fun song; in the third you were trying something new for the first time. That was it. From Cao Cao onwards, I think you tried a little too hard to market yourself and lost that magical innocence that made you unique, that somehow made you stand out even amongst the other Chinese ballad crooners.

The songs in this album shocked me – in a negative way. Sixology gave me a little hope that you were going to stop trying so hard and go back to being who you were comfortable with.

Then again, who am I to judge “who you are”? I just think you sounded much more relaxed and comfortable with the style of yours that made you famous – your emo vanilla ballads. Your songs make me cry even though I don’t really understand the lyrics thanks to my atrocious Chinese. There’s always at least one beautiful slow song in each album. 翅膀, 冻结, 会有那么一天 in the first. 害怕, 距离 in the second. 无尽的思念，一千年以后 in the third. Sarang Heyo, 熟能生巧 in the fourth. 不流泪的机场 in the fifth. 我还想她 in the sixth. Just in case you haven’t realised yet, all of those songs (except无尽的思念) are of the same style. That’s what you do best. Through these few songs your slow but sure evolution in style is also obvious. In your newest album, the only song I see a hint of that style in is 地几个100天. My favourite song – and, possibly, the only one I really like – is 背对背拥抱.

That song with the saxophone and high notes, 无法控制, made me cringe hard. The rest of the songs are okay. But JJ, what happened to the innocent vanilla ballads that swept the world away in tears? I know, it’s been seven years and you’ve changed incredibly much, but you sounded comfortable in your songs back then. Right now, the only thing that I sense is that you’re trying so hard to venture into other areas that you’ve lost your pure signature style. Bring it back, JJ, bring it back. Maybe you don’t really have to worry about not being able to market yourself because the harder you try, the more you lose that touch that made you famous in the first place.

HELLO I'M IN LOVE WITH JJ AGAIN

Just like what people say about Jay Chou's Fantasy, JJ's Jiang Nan will always be his best album ever (and in my opinion, the best album ever).

Hai Pa, Tian Shi Xin, Dong Jie, Ju Li, Dou Jiang You Tiao - the ballads are so beautifully melodiously melancholic it's not hard to cry listening to them, and the fun songs display the cute side of him. Gosh I love this kid. The personality depicted in this album is the side of him that I fell in love with and the side of him I'll always love and miss, because he's "grown up" now.

Plus he looked incredibly Taiwanese in that album. It was hard to imagine him as a.. Singaporean ACSI guy.

I'm thinking of changing my blog song to Hai Pa. I love my present blog song but... I want Hai Pa. But Hai Pa's really slow. And I want No Surprise too. :/

OH MY JJ.

I remember Rachel, Teressa and I talking about murdering the girl whom JJ kissed in Dong Jie. Nadine hates that girl. "She's not a ballerina! Her movements are WRONG!!!"

I hate that girl's character too. Piang, when JJ tries to hug her she pushes him away and then starts doing the AH LIAN SLAP. WAH LAO. I remember Rachel Teressa and I being furious at her. Yes, so she keeps ah lian slapping her before hugging him again. I can't believe how idiotic JJ's character is. I'm watching them kiss now. Ahh my JJ.

Dong Jie (2004).

OMG I'm watching that video, Dong Jie, and there's this scene near the end where he and the girl are sitting on the bench and talking, and he does that that that shrugging action and "mm not bad" face he always does even now!!!!! OMG SO CUTE. He looks so different, it looks like as if two complete strangers are doing the same mm not bad face. GAHAHAHAHA. And he's doing that straining ugly face too GAHAHAHA

Disappointment

I watched JJ on the President's Command performance, and I must say..

He sounded terrible.

(No, wait, I'm not saying he sucks)

STUPID JJ WORKED UNTIL HE LOST HIS VOICE ON THE DAY OF HIS SINGAPORE CONCERT AND HE WENT TO THE HOSPITAL CAN!!!!! (Thankfully his voice was restored in time for the concert, thanks to all the prayers, although his voice definitely wasn't his best.)

Then he went to Beijing and had to be admitted into hospital again, he just never stops working! He doesn't know when to rest!!!

I mean, DEAR JJ, we would ALL prefer you to get more rest so that you can always perform at your best and do a really good job at it, rather than KEEP WORKING YOUR ASS OFF such that you're forever sick and not able to perform well!

We used to hear you sing beautifully everytime you got on stage. Now all we, or I, feel is disappointment, and the worst thing about this is that other people who hear you sing terribly won't know it's because you've been working like mad until you're sick!

YOU FREAKING IDIOT CAN TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF OR NOT?!?!??!

You keep getting sick and you're never able to perform at your best, so you always sound like crap and give others a bad impression! What's the point? We'd all rather you get enough rest so that you can always perform well. I wouldn't mind you having one less performance in Singapore if you used the time to SLEEP. And not feel guilty because of all the stuff you have to attend to. They're not important. Not as important as your freaking health.

28 March - JJ Concert
was AWESOME MAN! :D

So funny, Jt, Jan, Mad and I came in a black-and-white colour combi although none of us told anyone else what exactly we were wearing. It was completely unplanned!

Choing-ed JJ's present because we wanted to give it to him that day instead of during the Kbox event, because a lot of people would give him presents then. Was extremely fun haha and we had to do the last quarter of the present in the dark because it was around 8pm and we weren't sitting near any strong light sources. Extremely proud of it :D

Turns out, Row 6 was very near the front, woohoo!

JJ came out singing You Ni Xuan Ze, with all these EXTREMELY CUTE "J-babies" around, zomg they were actually dancers in fat cartoon costumes lah. Then after the song ended when JJ was talking the J-babies were like, playing/fighting with one another, one kicked the other's butt, and another one slapped another one and it fell down HAHA. J-babies my ass lah. Aren't they Smudge babies?

And then because 28 Mar was EARTH HOUR, they switched off the lights and stuff for one minute (If they switched it off for one hour then got no concert already lah!) But it was totally not-dark because of everyone's lightsticks etc. And we all kept screaming. XD

Then he sang SARANG HEYO AHHHHH! And at the last part of the song, instead of "Baby, I will love you because 我都属于你" he sang
"JJFC... I will love you love you love you love you love you, 我都属于你!" :D

When he sang 89757 he tried to do the one-hand handstand twice but failed. I knew he must've feeling extremely disappointed and angry with himself and I got extremely xin tong when I saw that, and I prayed that he would regain his confidence & put on a good show, and later he tried the handstand a third time and succeeded :D

He did some extremely obscenely gay Canto (or something) song & dance and did two Michael Jackson songs too, You Are Not Alone and Beat It, was quite funny because he imitated him a little. Random act-cool spins, the pelvis thrust, the Moonwalk etc XD

Most of us agree that the part where his parents and brother played instuments while he sang Zui Chi Bi was the best part. It was his "surprise" specially for Singapore ;D His mother played the Pipa, his dad played the Erhu and his brother Eugene played the piano. Very cool. JJ looked SUPER CUTE when he kissed his mother on the cheek can!

I absolutely LOVE it when he plays the piano and sings. He's incredibly good at it k. When he played Jian Jian Dan Dan and sang I was like melting, his piano playing is so good can! And I can't even play and sing at the same time. -.-
(Then again, he's JJ. I'm just me.)

Before he sang Hai Pa, he said something I completely agree with.
What's your greatest fear?
Sure, I'm terrified of the dark, of being alone. But I'm talking about a different kind of fear. Emotionally, my fears are also pretty much the same as JJ's; fear of losing confidence, of losing hope.
Hope is what keeps us alive, it's what we live for, the reason we study, the reason prisoners of war continue to fight to live, the reason a maid who's been abused doesn't kill herself. Hope is everything to me, it's the reason I'm still here, the reason I haven't dropped out of school yet. It's the reason I'm going to church, the reason I joined OB. Without hope, where would we all be?
Would we have a future?
I'm hoping to acheive my dream of working in the music industry someday, and I'm doing so much for it - studying hard (or trying to), classes at OB - my obsession with this dream is taking over my life, if you've noticed from my blog posts. I was close to giving up on this a lot of times, and I know it's almost impossible. But hope's keeping me fighting for this.
Apart from this, I guess I'm also afraid of losing those dearest to me, not physically but emotionally. I'm also afraid of not feeling loved by the people around me. :/
I have a very low self-esteem. So I guess lack of confidence is something I'm used to.

When he sang songs like Dong Jie and Dou Jiang You Tiao, they were great, but he just couldn't bring back the innocence of the song, and he never will be able to. He's grown up now. No longer as innocent. And it hurts to know that. When he sang those songs I felt kinda sad because I realised how much he has grown, how different he is from the JJ I fell in love with.

He sang Tu Ran Lei Le and played the guitar, whee :D LOVE that song.

When JJ sang Zhi Dui Ni You Gan Jue with By2 it was a complete disaster in my opinion. The key was too low for JJ and too high for By2. And it sounded extremely gross, like some Karaoke session lol. He sounded much better with Fan Wei Qi.

I can't remember what song he sang before the encore :/

Anw, his encore was good, he sang Cao Cao again but not with the crazy cockroach outfit, this time he was wearing a checkered suit and he had a fake light saber (is that how you spell it?) haha. And I was telling Jt, "Eh, see, he got lightstick also!" XDDDD Next time we should buy those instead of puny lightsticks. Much better effects. HAHA.

I screamed so hard during the concert that 2/3 through Jt's right ear bled and went deaf. It's still 90% deaf now. Crap crap crap. Please help me pray too everyone...

JJ said his voice was very bad before the concert, he wasn't feeling well and stuff, but when his friends prayed, his voice came back. (: Yay, God the Healer saved JJ!

Will blog about the Kbox event some other time. This post too long already.
