mood: grossed OUT. --- song: KILLA/jj

watched a recording of Life in the Undergrowth (discovery channel)
it was.. AMAZING.
i never knew insects were so smart. and evil.
there was this blue butterfly, she lays her eggs on leaves of plants, and a few weeks after they’re born they will drop to the ground, over some ant’s holes, and these larvae smell exactly like ant larvae, so the ants will take care of the butterfly larvae like their own kids, even though they’re bigger than ant larvae. (uh, maybe ants are half blind? :x)
and then a wasp, which also wants the ants to take care of its babies, detects which ant holes contain the butterfly larvae’s chrysalis (pupae stage) and then go inside those ant holes, give out something that makes the ants fight each other instead of the wasp itself, and then goes to the chrysalis and lays its eggs inside the chrysalis. so that when the wasps are born, they can feed on the developing butterfly. O_o
so if the larvae is lucky, it becomes a butterfly, but for some, a wasp emerges from the cocoon instead of a butterfly (cos the wasp eats the pupae mah).
so mean right? and so smart also.

there are even more amazing stories.. some insects make other insects go insane and then lay their eggs in those insects’ bodies, so they can eat the insect INSIDE-OUT. it’s like Alien & Predator. YUCK. but mostly it’s all about injecting another body and laying eggs inside that body lah.
insects are so smart. so scary. O_O i’ll never look at insects in disrespect EVER again.
